emirates7 - On behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, arrived in Rome today to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV as the new head of the Catholic Church.
Sheikh Saud was joined by Sheikh Khalid bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Vice Chairman of the Investment and Development Office in Ras Al Khaimah.
The appointment of Pope Leo XIV comes after the passing of Pope Francis, whose papacy was notable for promoting interfaith dialogue and fostering human understanding. Pope Francis notably co-signed the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi in February 2019 — a historic agreement that was later recognized by the United Nations General Assembly, which declared it the International Day of Human Fraternity.
The inauguration will be held at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, in the presence of numerous world leaders, dignitaries, and heads of state, in keeping with the Catholic Church’s long-standing ceremonial traditions.
