Zayed National Museum: A historic beacon that celebrates UAE's rich history, honours legacy of founding father

emirates7 - The eagerly awaited Zayed National Museum embodies the legacy of the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. As part of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), the museum’s mission goes beyond preserving history; it acts as a dynamic institution where future generations can engage with the story of the United Arab Emirates and help shape its future.

The museum also plays a role in boosting economic growth by creating high-quality job opportunities and providing specialized educational programs that prepare young professionals for careers in the museum field.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the Zayed National Museum serves as a national knowledge hub, offering visitors a chance to explore a diverse collection of artifacts from both ancient and modern cultures of the UAE and the wider region.

He further explained that the museum honors the rich heritage and culture of the nation while celebrating the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The museum’s vision is inspired by his principles—ambition, education, culture, sustainability, and a deep respect for heritage—which remain central to its mission and the broader aspirations of the UAE.

On May 18, the nation marks International Museum Day. In celebration, the Zayed National Museum will host interactive workshops and educational programs designed to engage and inspire learners of all ages. The museum will also serve as a comprehensive resource on the history and culture of the UAE, telling the story of the land from ancient times to today.

Dr. Peter Magee, Director of the Zayed National Museum, told WAM that International Museum Day is a chance to recognize the important role museums play in building inclusive and sustainable communities. He emphasized that sustainability extends beyond environmental concerns to include empowering people, preserving culture, and innovating systems for broader benefit. Museums are lively spaces that encourage cultural exchange and engagement, allowing visitors to connect with history and gain fresh perspectives. Accordingly, significant efforts have been made to ensure the museum is accessible to everyone in society.

Situated in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District—one of the world’s leading cultural hubs—the Zayed National Museum joins other institutions in the district in promoting the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continuing his vision by fostering cultural dialogue between current and future generations.
