emirates7 - Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) announced on Tuesday that construction of the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling facility has reached the halfway mark—42 days ahead of schedule.
Located next to EGA’s Al Taweelah smelter, the plant will have an annual processing capacity of 170,000 tonnes. More than 1.2 million work hours have already been completed without a single Lost Time Incident.
The site will house the UAE’s largest aluminium furnace, capable of melting 17 tonnes per hour. Installation is on track for completion in June.
The facility will recycle both post-consumer and pre-consumer aluminium scrap to produce high-quality, low-carbon aluminium billets. These billets will be marketed under the name RevivAL. Currently, most aluminium scrap generated in the UAE is exported for processing abroad, resulting in a loss to the domestic economy. Once operational, EGA expects to become the UAE’s leading aluminium scrap consumer.
The first production of molten aluminium from the new plant is anticipated in the first half of 2026.
EGA CEO Abdulnasser bin Kalban stated: “Recycling represents a significant global growth opportunity for both our industry and for EGA. We’re making strong progress, both internationally and here in the UAE, with the development of this new plant. It will allow us to grow our portfolio of low-carbon metals for customers locally and worldwide, and marks another milestone in the Make it in the Emirates initiative.”
Global demand for recycled aluminium is projected to double by 2040. In 2024, EGA advanced its international recycling footprint with the acquisitions of Leichtmetall in Europe and Spectro Alloys in the United States—both specialists in secondary aluminium production.
EGA was also the first company to produce aluminium using solar energy, branded as CelestiAL. In 2023, it broadened its low-carbon offerings by combining solar-powered and recycled aluminium to further reduce its carbon footprint.
