US approves $1.4 billion equipment sale to UAE for rescue and disaster relief operations

emirates7 - U.S. officials have confirmed that the State Department has approved a $1.4 billion arms deal with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), just ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to the region this week.

According to a statement from the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, the UAE intends to use the new military equipment for missions involving search and rescue, disaster response, humanitarian aid, and counterterrorism.

Trump began his Gulf tour on Tuesday, with scheduled stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. His agenda includes discussions on regional diplomacy—particularly concerning Gaza and Iran—as well as potential high-value business agreements in sectors such as defense, aviation, energy, and artificial intelligence.

“The UAE is a key U.S. ally contributing to political stability and economic development in the Middle East,” the statement added.

The proposed deal includes the sale of six CH-47F Chinook helicopters and related equipment valued at $1.32 billion. Additionally, the State Department has approved the sale of $130 million worth of components for F-16 fighter jets.

In a separate announcement, officials noted that the F-16 parts will enhance the UAE’s capability to safeguard its national sovereignty and meet its defense objectives.

Congress now has a 30-day window to potentially block the transaction.
