Abu Dhabi Customs, Japan Customs explore new avenues to facilitate trade, support economic growth

emirates7 - As part of Abu Dhabi’s economic delegation to Japan, Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs, held a meeting with Yojiro Uchino, Deputy Director General of Japan’s Customs and Tariff Bureau.

Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, exploring new opportunities, and sharing expertise and international best practices in customs operations. A key point of emphasis was the role of digital technologies and advanced smart solutions in streamlining trade and supporting future economic growth.

Uchino welcomed Al Mansoori and his delegation, reaffirming Japan Customs’ strong dedication to strengthening bilateral customs ties. He highlighted the importance of openness and innovation and shared Japan Customs’ strategic vision, particularly the transformative potential of technologies like artificial intelligence.

He also praised Abu Dhabi Customs for its digital advancements, noting that their collaborative efforts will further solidify the relationship, especially in light of the expected signing of the Mutual Customs Assistance Agreement between Japan and the UAE, which will establish a formal framework for information exchange.

Al Mansoori expressed gratitude for the warm reception by Japan Customs and reaffirmed the robust relationship between Abu Dhabi, the UAE, and Japan, describing Japan as a vital strategic partner. He noted that ties are poised to deepen with the anticipated signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

He emphasized Abu Dhabi Customs’ leadership in digital transformation, citing initiatives such as the TradeChain blockchain platform, the AI-powered Integrated Risk Management System, and the proposed Trusted Digital Trade Corridor pilot project.

He described the visit as a significant step in the evolving partnership, particularly in the areas of smart trade facilitation, border security, and the development of advanced customs systems prepared for future challenges.

During their visit, the Abu Dhabi Customs delegation also took part in several major events, including Expo 2025 Osaka, SusHi Tech Tokyo, the 11th Abu Dhabi–Japan Economic Council, the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum, and the Abu Dhabi–Tokyo Business Forum. These engagements aimed to boost investment, drive innovation, and foster knowledge exchange.
