emirates7 - The Ministry of Education (MoE) has revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) will be officially included as a subject in the public-school curriculum for students from kindergarten to Grade 12, starting in the 2025-2026 academic year.
This initiative aims to equip students with crucial knowledge and skills to understand AI concepts and apply them in daily life. It aligns with the UAE’s commitment to preparing youth to navigate global trends and foster innovation. The UAE will be among the first countries to incorporate AI into school curricula.
This national project supports the UAE's ambition to be a global leader in AI and digital transformation. It is being carried out in collaboration with Presight, a G42 company, AI71, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and Emirates College for Advanced Education, all working together to accelerate technology adoption in education. The goal is to invest in people and a future-ready education system that fuels sustainable national development.
Sarah Al Amiri, the Minister of Education, commented, “The introduction of AI across all public school levels is a key step in modernizing teaching tools and empowering a generation of students who are knowledgeable about technology ethics and capable of creating innovative solutions for future challenges. The integration of AI into classrooms aligns with the UAE Government's forward-looking vision and strengthens its global leadership in education driven by innovation and technology. This also supports the country’s objective of building a knowledge-based society and a competitive digital economy led by skilled local talent.”
The AI curriculum in the UAE covers seven main areas: foundational concepts, data and algorithms, software usage, ethical awareness, real-world applications, innovation and project design, and policies and community engagement. It ensures that students at all levels acquire a strong understanding of AI and are able to apply it in practical contexts.
The curriculum is designed to be age-appropriate, starting in kindergarten, where children will engage with AI concepts through stories and interactive play. In Cycle 1, students will compare machines with humans, develop digital thinking skills, and explore AI applications. In Cycle 2, they will focus on designing and evaluating AI systems, learning about algorithms and bias, and exploring ethical considerations in AI use. Cycle 3 prepares students for higher education and careers by teaching command engineering and simulating real-world scenarios.
This new AI curriculum will be integrated into existing school schedules without requiring extra teaching hours. It will be delivered by designated teachers within the Computing, Creative Design, and Innovation subject. Additionally, MoE will provide detailed guides, including activities, models, and lesson plans that can be adapted to various classroom environments.
