China’s software revenue jumps 10.6% in Q1 to over 3 trillion yuan

emirates7 - China’s software and information technology services sector maintained solid momentum in the first quarter of 2025, achieving consistent revenue growth, double-digit profit increases, and a rebound in exports, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

During Q1, the sector's total software business revenue rose by 10.6% year-on-year to reach 3.15 trillion yuan (approximately US$433 billion). As reported by China Central Television (CCTV), industry profits climbed 11.6% to 372.6 billion yuan (over US$51 billion). Software exports also improved, increasing 2.4% to US$13.1 billion.

Revenue from software products reached 753.6 billion yuan (around US$104 billion), up 9.4% from the previous year, and represented 23.9% of the industry's total income. Within this category, industrial software generated 67.1 billion yuan (over US$9.2 billion), an increase of 7.1%, while basic software brought in 41.9 billion yuan (around US$5.7 billion), growing 7.9%.

The information technology services segment sustained robust double-digit growth, with revenues climbing 11.0% year-on-year to 2.08 trillion yuan (over US$286 billion), making up 66.1% of the total industry revenue. Notably, cloud computing and big data services contributed 354.0 billion yuan (approximately US$49 billion), up 11.1% year-on-year. Revenue from integrated circuit design surged 19.7% to 90.6 billion yuan (over US$12 billion), and e-commerce platform services rose 8.4% to 248.2 billion yuan (over US$34 billion).

The information security sector also experienced steady growth, with product and service revenue rising 8.6% to 48.1 billion yuan (more than US$6.6 billion). Embedded system software revenue increased more moderately, up 10.5% year-on-year to 264.2 billion yuan (over US$36 billion).

In terms of regional performance, all major areas posted growth: the eastern region grew by 10.6%, the central region by 11.8%, the western region by 9.9%, and the northeastern region by 10.9%. The eastern region remained dominant, accounting for 84.2% of the nation’s total software business revenue.

Among key economic zones, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region expanded by 11.8%, and the Yangtze River Delta by 10.4%. The five leading provinces and cities by software business revenue—Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Shanghai—recorded annual growth rates between 8% and 14%. Specifically, Beijing grew by 11.8%, Guangdong by 8.2%, Jiangsu by 10.0%, Shandong by 12.4%, and Shanghai led with a 14.1% increase.
