Kalimat Foundation announces region’s 1st inclusive book series

emirates7 - Kalimat Foundation marked a significant achievement in accessible publishing with the launch of the region’s first inclusive children’s book series, developed in partnership with Kalimat Group. This announcement was made during the Board of Trustees meeting at the 16th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF).

This initiative highlights the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to making knowledge accessible to all children, regardless of their abilities, and to fostering inclusive, sustainable learning environments.

Chaired by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the Founder and Chairperson of Kalimat Foundation, the meeting took place at Expo Centre Sharjah. The board members reviewed this major accomplishment and discussed future strategies to further extend the Foundation's humanitarian and educational reach.

Key attendees at the meeting included Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, His Excellency Mohamed Abdullah, Ahlam Bolooki, and Fuad Mansoor Sharaf.

The newly unveiled book series was carefully designed to be inclusive of both visually impaired and sighted children. Supported by Sharjah Islamic Bank and the Sharjah Charity Association, the print-braille collection combines printed text, braille, and tactile illustrations, offering both educational and recreational content while promoting a shared reading culture.

In her comments on the launch, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi emphasized that the new book series embodies the Foundation's belief that all children should experience the magic of reading. She noted that by creating books that unite visually impaired and sighted children, the Foundation is taking a significant step toward a more inclusive and compassionate future, reaffirming its dedication to bridging the accessibility gap and promoting diversity in knowledge.

The Board also reviewed the Foundation’s key accomplishments in 2025, which included donating 400 Arabic-language books to Palestinian children at the Emirates Humanitarian City in Abu Dhabi as part of the "Pledge a Library" initiative during the UAE’s Month of Reading. Another highlight was the Foundation’s cultural and educational campaign in Morocco, which supported Sharjah's participation as Guest of Honour at the 30th Rabat International Book Fair. This campaign saw the distribution of 600 Arabic-language books to schools and associations, as well as prizes for the winners of the Moroccan Reading Network competition.

The Board approved a strategic roadmap aimed at expanding the "Pledge a Library" initiative to deliver portable libraries to charity schools across the UAE, securing sustainable project funding, enhancing evaluation methods, and broadening the Foundation's regional and international presence.

After the meeting, the Trustees toured the pavilion and engaged with the Foundation's ongoing projects, continuing to advance its mission of providing equitable access to knowledge.
