emirates7 - The UAE Ministry of Finance held an awareness session at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, gathering Emirati students studying across the United States. This event coincided with the launch of the UAE Global Cadres initiative, which aims to explore training opportunities and career pathways within major international financial organisations.
The session is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to invest in human capital by preparing and empowering Emirati youth to take on positions within global financial institutions.
Key attendees included Younis Haji AlKhoori, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance; Ali Abdullah Sharafi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for International Financial Relations; Azza Ali AlJassmi, Director of Government Communication; and Thuraiya Hamid AlHashmi, Director of International Financial Relations and Organisations. Representatives from the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also participated, offering insights into their recruitment processes and professional development programmes.
In his opening speech, AlKhoori highlighted the UAE Global Cadres initiative as a strategic effort to nurture a generation of Emiratis capable of representing the nation within international financial bodies.
"Through this initiative, we seek to clear routes for secondment, training, and employment at top-tier financial institutions, strengthening the capabilities of Emirati talent and paving the way for leadership roles globally," he stated.
He added, "Your participation today demonstrates ambition and readiness. We believe in your potential to represent the UAE on the world stage. Investing in Emirati youth is the most valuable investment, and the UAE Global Cadres initiative serves as a bridge to that future."
Alia Al Suwaidi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, also spoke, affirming the Embassy’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with Emirati students in the US and involving them in embassy-led initiatives.
She noted, "We view Emirati students as ambassadors of our national values. These sessions enrich their understanding, expand their professional networks, and enhance their potential to thrive in international organisations."
During the session, the students learned about key training and development programmes offered by institutions like the WBG and IMF. They actively engaged by asking questions about application procedures, entry criteria, and the most in-demand fields within global financial organisations.
Students also expressed a keen interest in understanding how to adapt to multicultural work environments and plan long-term international careers. WBG and IMF representatives provided detailed guidance on career pathways and programmes tailored to young Emirati talent.
This awareness session reflects the UAE’s growing strategic ties with global financial organisations and aims to support Emiratis specialising in areas such as economics, finance, accounting, and international relations. It is part of a wider series of initiatives organised by the Ministry of Finance, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, across key global cities hosting major financial institutions.
Ultimately, the UAE Global Cadres initiative seeks to familiarise Emirati students with the necessary qualifications and career pathways, furthering the UAE government’s vision of empowering national talent to make a lasting societal and global impact.
