OpenAI rolls out ‘lightweight’ version of its ChatGPT deep research tool

emirates7 - OpenAI has announced the release of an updated version of its powerful "Deep Research" tool within ChatGPT, aimed at maintaining its high-quality standards while expanding accessibility across different user levels.

The announcement was made via OpenAI’s official account on X (formerly known as Twitter).

This new version is powered by OpenAI’s "o4-mini" model, which the company describes as “nearly as intelligent” as the original model used to detailed, source-cited reports and summaries. The latest iteration offers more concise responses while continuing to deliver the depth and accuracy associated with OpenAI’s technologies.

The lightweight version of Deep Research is now available to Free ChatGPT users, limited to five tasks per month. Users subscribed to the Plus and Team plans are allotted 25 tasks per month across both the original and lightweight versions. Pro plan subscribers, meanwhile, have access to 250 tasks per month.

Beginning next week, Enterprise and Education plan users will also be able to use the new tool, under the same task limits as those for the Plus and Team plans.

Deep Research remains one of ChatGPT’s most advanced tools, designed to analyze websites and various online sources to produce thorough reports with proper citations. With the launch of a lightweight version, OpenAI is making this powerful capability available to a wider audience while upholding the high standards of research and reporting that it is known for.
