emirates7 - The United Arab Emirates will participate in the 10th session of the Conference of Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, which will take place in Paris from October 20th to 22nd.
Representing the UAE will be Dr. Reema Al Hosani, a consultant in sports medicine and the international coordinator of a global research team investigating the effects of herbal substances on doping.
Dr. Al Hosani leads a team of about 40 experts from multiple countries as part of a UNESCO-supported initiative under the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport.
The initiative aims to examine how traditional herbs impact sports integrity and values in relation to doping, running from June 2024 to May 2025.
Dr. Al Hosani explained that the initiative was launched in response to an increasing number of athletes turning to traditional medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also highlighted that the Executive Committee of the Conference of Parties approved the proposal, and her leadership of the Arab group led to their selection to head the global team.
