ERRA enhances Arab cooperation to protect creators' rights

emirates7 - The Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) is actively taking part in the "Sharjah Guest of Honour" programme at the Rabat International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL), which runs until April 27.

This involvement offers a valuable platform to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the UAE and Morocco in the field of rights management. It also facilitates the sharing of effective legislative frameworks and best practices.

Through its participation, ERRA aims to raise awareness about the significance of reprographic rights, advocate for the protection of authors' and creators' intellectual property, and spotlight the UAE’s national strategies for advancing intellectual property safeguards.

The association also hopes to build strategic alliances by forming new partnerships and signing cooperation agreements with Moroccan and other international reprographic rights entities present at the fair.

Dr. Mohammad Alkamali, a board member of ERRA, highlighted the importance of this participation, stating, “Our presence at the fair reflects our dedication to strengthening ties with fellow Arab nations and reinforcing efforts to safeguard the intellectual rights of creators.

"We firmly believe in the synergy between cultural and legal institutions to foster an innovation-friendly environment and protect creative works amidst the fast-evolving landscape of intellectual property. We're eager to share the UAE’s experience while also learning from Morocco’s leading practices in this domain.”

As part of its programme, ERRA is hosting a booth within the "Sharjah Guest of Honour" pavilion to showcase its initiatives and activities. A highlight of the participation is a special panel discussion titled “Preserving Creators’ Rights – The Emirati-Moroccan Experience”, which features experts from both countries discussing their respective efforts to safeguard reprographic and creative rights.

The session explored how legislation, policy, and institutions contribute to protecting creators, advancing the creative economy, and overcoming sector challenges. It also examined best practices and proposed forward-looking strategies to support sustainable creative production and foster a knowledge-driven economy.

Among the key attendees were Mohammed bin Dekhain, ERRA President; Dr. Mohammad Alkamali, ERRA board member; and Dalal El Mhamdi El Alawi, Director of the Moroccan Office of Reprographic Right and Related Rights.
