Dubai Media Academy launches ‘Artificial Intelligence Initiative in Arab Media’

emirates7 - Dubai Media Academy, the training and research branch of Dubai Media Incorporated, has officially launched its "Artificial Intelligence Initiative in Arab Media."

Revealed during Dubai AI Week—running from April 21st to 25th under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence—the initiative aims to establish a comprehensive ecosystem of AI-powered tools and technologies tailored specifically to support Arabic-language content across media platforms in the Arab world.

The initiative stems from a series of recommendations generated through the academy’s workshops and expert sessions held over the past year. These discussions underscored a pressing gap in AI tools that can accurately navigate the intricacies, dialects, and cultural richness of the Arabic language.

To address this, the academy will collaborate with media organisations, tech companies, software developers, universities, and research bodies. Together, they will work on developing innovations to overcome key challenges such as dialect variation, the integrity of visual media, and the limited availability of robust Arabic-language datasets for training AI models.

Muna Busamra, Director of Dubai Media Academy, emphasised that this initiative directly responds to the practical demands voiced by stakeholders across the Arab media landscape. “Our dialogues revealed a clear need for AI solutions that genuinely understand Arabic and its diverse cultural backdrop,” she said.

She further explained that, as a knowledge-driven institution, the academy is committed to using its research capabilities to advance technologies that not only empower Arab media but also help preserve the region’s cultural identity while elevating its global visibility.

Asem Galal, Advisor to the Academy, described the initiative as a major milestone in leveraging artificial intelligence to shape the region’s future.

During Dubai AI Week, the academy will host a series of specialised workshops and discussions. Additional strategic projects and partnerships linked to the initiative will be revealed progressively throughout the year.
