ADIBF features vibrant programme promoting sustainable reading in ‘Year of Community’

emirates7 - The 34th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), scheduled from April 26 to May 5, will offer a vibrant and varied series of events, further establishing its role as a premier global platform that embodies the cultural and civilisational vision of Abu Dhabi.

This year's fair will feature over 2,000 events designed to engage diverse audiences, catering to a wide array of intellectual, artistic, and cultural interests.

Aligned with the UAE’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community, the fair coincides with the launch of the first phase of a campaign promoting sustainable reading. The initiative, led by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), carries the theme “Knowledge Illuminates Our Community” and is part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to elevate the Arabic language and foster a reading culture throughout society.

The campaign underscores reading as a vital tool for community growth and social unity. It also focuses on nurturing the talents of various community groups, especially the youth, by empowering them through proficiency in Arabic—a central element of heritage and collective values.

In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Executive Director of the ALC and Director of ADIBF, highlighted the significance of the fair’s alignment with the campaign, emphasizing that it offers essential support to the goals of promoting sustainable reading.

Al Tunaiji noted that the campaign is just one of many ALC initiatives aimed at strengthening the Arabic language, integrating reading into daily routines, and translating the Year of Community’s values into tangible actions.

This year, over 1,400 exhibitors from more than 90 countries will participate, with representatives speaking more than 60 languages. Among them, 120 exhibitors are joining for the first time, reflecting an 18 percent growth rate. The fair will also welcome publishers from 20 countries, spanning four continents and showcasing over 25 languages. In total, the 2025 ADIBF will host 28 international pavilions, 87 local and international government entities, 13 author-publishers, 15 universities, and 8 initiatives supporting the publishing industry.

As part of the sustainable reading campaign, the ALC will organize over 2,000 cultural events, including 1,700 creative activities aimed at fostering a long-term culture of reading in the community.
