Ivo Oliveira makes it back-to-back UAE wins at Giro d’Abruzzo

emirates7 - Following Alessandro Covi’s impressive victory on stage 1, UAE Team Emirates-XRG secured another win on stage 2 of the Giro d’Abruzzo, with Ivo Oliveira claiming a thrilling late victory in Penne. The Portuguese rider launched an attack 1.5 kilometers from the finish and managed to hold off the chasing group to take his fourth career win, marking the Emirati team’s 29th victory of the season.

The win was particularly special for Oliveira, who has been a crucial support rider for his teammates. While his past victories include the Portuguese national championships and a prologue at the Boucles de la Mayenne, this was his first win in a road race for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, making it even more meaningful.

The joy among Oliveira, his teammates, and the team staff was palpable, creating an emotional moment that reflected the fantastic start to the race by the UAE squad.

On stage 2, Covi, riding in the leader’s jersey, finished strongly in fourth place. He handed over the race lead to Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), who finished second in both opening stages. However, Fiorelli is only two seconds ahead as the race moves into stage 3.
