emirates7 - Emirates SkyCargo, the freight arm of the world’s largest international airline, has introduced a dedicated weekly freighter service to Narita International Airport (NRT), expanding its freighter network to 38 destinations.
This move marks the first ever direct, scheduled freighter route between Narita and the Middle East, offering quicker and more adaptable shipping solutions.
Japan, known for its robust and varied manufacturing sector, has been a key market for Emirates SkyCargo, which already operates two weekly freighter services to Kansai International Airport (KIX). The upcoming Narita service will add 100 tonnes of cargo capacity in each direction. Expected shipments include auto and industrial machinery parts, semiconductor components, and advanced pharmaceutical products, all delivered efficiently through Emirates’ specialized cargo services.
Narita International Airport is Japan’s top air and seaport in terms of cargo value handled. With ongoing investment under the ‘New Narita Airport’ Development Plan, it is on track to become the region’s premier cargo hub by the decade’s end.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, stated: “Expanding our freighter network is a central goal in our 10-year growth strategy. Now that we’re adding new Boeing 777 freighters to our fleet, we can connect with new markets and offer greater capacity.
“We’ve seen growing demand for our high-quality services in Narita, especially for pharmaceutical and electronics shipments that travel in the bellyhold of our daily passenger flights. Previously, large or irregularly shaped cargo, like machinery parts, had to go through KIX. This new freighter service allows us to provide direct access to and via Dubai, while enhancing our presence in Japan.”
Currently, Emirates SkyCargo operates 57 freighter flights per week across four destinations in East and Southeast Asia, supplemented by over 290 weekly passenger flights. This extensive schedule makes East Asia one of its busiest regions, with further growth expected as new passenger routes to Siem Reap (Cambodia), Da Nang (Vietnam), and Shenzhen (China) launch soon.
Starting 24 May 2025, flight EK9413 will arrive at Narita International Airport on Saturdays at 01:00 AM UTC and depart for Dubai World Central at 03:00 AM UTC.
