Emirates Environmental Group recognises 64 entities at 28th Annual Corporate Gala Dinner

emirates7 - The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) hosted its 28th Annual Corporate Gala Dinner to celebrate achievements in sustainability, promote unity, and enhance community engagement.

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Civil Aviation and Member of the Executive Council of Ras Al Khaimah, the event brought together dignitaries, diplomats, corporate leaders, and sustainability advocates to reflect on EEG’s milestones and reaffirm global efforts towards a greener future.

The event saw participation from ambassadors and consuls general from Europe, Africa, and Asia, underscoring EEG’s international influence and the importance of global collaboration in advancing sustainability.

With the theme "Fostering Unity, Cultivating Sustainability," the evening emphasized the importance of collective action in environmental conservation. In her welcome speech, Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with the UAE’s 2025 Year of Community, as declared by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. She urged stakeholders to work together in building a more sustainable society.

Al Mar’ashi highlighted the UAE’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, citing the 2024 Year of Sustainability as part of a broader transformation that began in 2023. She called for collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity to address environmental challenges at the national level and encouraged corporations, government entities, academia, and individuals to adopt eco-conscious practices.

The evening also recognized the contributions of 64 entities across the UAE for their dedication to sustainability and support of EEG’s initiatives in 2024.

A keynote address was delivered by H.E. Bérangère Boëll, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for the UAE, who stressed the importance of partnerships in tackling global environmental challenges. She commended EEG’s role in uniting government, the private sector, academia, and civil society, aligning with the UAE’s national sustainability goals, including Net Zero by 2050 and the UAE 2071 Centennial Plan.

The event highlighted EEG’s notable accomplishments, such as educating nearly 456,000 students through its outreach programs, diverting over 1.6 million kg of waste from landfills, and planting over 2.1 million trees since 2007. Additionally, EEG launched two new sustainability initiatives in 2024: the Purging Pestering Plastic Initiative to address plastic pollution and the E-Waste Day Initiative to promote proper disposal of electronic waste.

EEG also continues to engage on global platforms like UNEP, WPO, WGBC, GUD, and GISD Alliance, reinforcing the UAE’s leadership in environmental sustainability.
