SEWA begins work on 3rd list of home rationalisation project

emirates7 - The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), in partnership with the Social Services Department, has launched the third phase of the Home Rationalisation Initiative.

Guided by the directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the initiative is backed by a budget of AED 20 million to equip homes with advanced technologies that conserve electricity and water.

The third phase covers 417 homes, distributed as follows: 233 in Sharjah, 70 in Khorfakkan, 108 in Kalba, and 6 in the Central Region.

Majid Al Shamsi, Director-General of Institutional Support at SEWA, explained that the team reviewed the third list provided by the Social Services Department and contacted beneficiaries to arrange home visits for inspections and the installation of conservation devices. The list was then handed over to qualified teams tasked with inventory management and device installation.

SEWA has already completed the first phase of the programme, equipping 3,916 homes with more than 83,000 energy- and water-saving devices. This includes over 60,000 electricity-saving tools and 23,000 water-saving devices. As a result, participating homes have reduced lighting energy consumption by 40% and water usage by 63%.

In the second phase, upgrades were implemented in 2,020 homes, with over 50,000 devices installed. This included nearly 39,000 electricity-saving tools and 11,500 water-saving devices. These measures led to remarkable savings, with homes reducing electricity usage by 71% and water consumption by 62% compared to previous devices.

Overall, the initiative has introduced approximately 134,000 energy- and water-saving devices across the participating homes, significantly enhancing resource efficiency and sustainability.
