emirates7 - SpaceX launched its massive Starship rocket from Texas on Tuesday, making progress in advancing its spaceflight capabilities, though the attempt to recover its booster on land was unsuccessful.

The towering 400-foot (122-meter) rocket system, designed for lunar landings and potential Mars missions, lifted off from SpaceX's expansive rocket development site in Boca Chica, Texas.

The rocket’s first stage booster, the 233-foot (71-meter) Super Heavy, separated from the second stage, Starship, at an altitude of approximately 40 miles (62 km), propelling the spacecraft into orbit.

However, instead of returning to its launch site for a planned capture by mechanical arms on the tower, the Super Heavy unexpectedly splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico, signaling an issue during its descent.

Meanwhile, Starship completed a trip around Earth, culminating in a daytime splashdown in the Indian Ocean about an hour after liftoff. During the flight, it successfully reignited one of its onboard engines in space for the first time—an essential test of its maneuverability. This achievement marks progress after previous failed attempts in earlier missions.
