In celebration of the International Day of Families 2026 on May 15, 2026, Louvre Abu Dhabi highlights the importance of shared experiences and meaningful connections through art, culture and discovery. Marking the occasion, the museum continues its spring season with a curated programme of familyfocused experiences, bringing together collectioninspired workshops and outdoor activities designed to encourage creativity, shared learning and exploration.
Taking place across weekends throughout May, the programme invites families to engage with art through making, storytelling and close looking, both inside the galleries and along the museum’s waterfront.

Family Weekends
Taking place every Saturday and Sunday throughout May, Family Weekends invite families to take part in free artmaking activities inspired by the museum’s collection. Anchored around objectbased learning, each session begins in the galleries, where participants explore selected artworks with Museum Educators, before moving into a handson creative workshop that encourages making, storytelling and shared discovery.
Time: Two sessions per day at 11.00 am and 3.00 pm
Price: Free, dropin sessions
Design a Clay Bowl
Inspired by a prehistoric Japanese jar with cordpatterned decoration, participants work with airdry clay to small bowls or containers. The session encourages reflection on everyday objects, memory and care, inviting families to imagine the stories and items their creations might hold.
Date: 16-17 May
Make an Aluminium Foil Relief
Food is universally known for bringing people together. This session is inspired by the artwork Food for Thought by artist Maha Mulluh, and the way in which communities are brought closer by shared meals and stories. Participants will learn how to an aluminium foil relief that encapsulates their memories, feelings, or family stories.
Date: 23-24 May
Picasso Inspired Family Portraits
This session is inspired by the artworks currently on in the exhibition Picasso, the Figure. After exploring Picasso’s own representations of family and loved ones, participants will be invited to outlines of their family members on transparent sheets which can then be transferred onto paper to their own family portrait.

Outdoor Adventures
For families seeking adventure beyond the galleries, Louvre Abu Dhabi offers two unique ways to experience the museum from the water.
Kayaking Around the Museum
Operated by Husaak Adventures, this guided kayaking experience allows families to explore Louvre Abu Dhabi’s architecture from close range. Led by professional instructors, the tour is suitable for beginners and offers gentle exploration along the shoreline, with views of the dome and reflections on the water. On weekends, one child aged 6 to 12 can kayak free with every paying adult.
Day: Tuesday – Sunday
Duration: 90 minutes
Capacity: 25 participants

Private Catamaran Cruise
Families can also take to the water aboard a private electric catamaran operated by Nami Marine. The relaxed cruise offers uninterrupted views of the museum’s waterfront setting and Jean Nouvel’s iconic dome, providing a calm and scenic way to experience Louvre Abu Dhabi from the Arabian Sea.
